As a graphic designer, I spend a lot of time on the computer so when I learned to knit a few years ago I realized it was a much needed hands-on creative outlet for me. Last month, I decided to take a break from my regular knitting projects and knit “comfort blankets” for our local dachshund rescue, Dachshund Rescue South Florida. I contacted them prior to knitting the blankets to first make sure they were accepting blanket donations and to see if there were any special size requirements. They responded that any size will do and that they like to send a blanket with each adopted doxie to their furever home so they have something that smells familiar as they get acclimated in their new home. What’s better than a hand-knit super soft blanket for our little burrowers?

Sophie helped out with the knitting and even field tested the blankets
I had no original goal at first and then decided I would complete 10 before sending them off to DRSF. Once all the blankets were complete, Sophie, my Quality Control Pup, inspected them before shipping off. The project was a success! We received a wonderful handwritten thank you from DRSF.
If you or anyone you know knits or crochets, this is a wonderful way to give to the dachshund rescue (or any rescue) community.

Sophie wears her special Quality Control hat to inspect the blankets.
